Just have a think about it. By saying patient financing I am actually referring to the ordinary person being financially covered, to the hilt, for undergoing what is known as elective surgery.  Now, most of us who have run-of-the-mill health insurance policies will be well aware of just what those policies will cover; we all have read in between the lines those little clauses which state what is deemed to be elective surgery and what isn’t.  Funny how their view of things differs from ours, eh?

So just what is deemed to be elective surgery these days in general?…

* Cesarean sections in non-urgent cases - women who are for some reason afraid of natural childbirth.

* Keloid scarring - Keloids are considered to be scars that don’t know when to stop forming. A keloid scar is a tough heaped-up scar that rises quite abruptly above the rest of the skin. Those people of african descent, or have very olive skin, tend to experience keloid scarring more than other people.

* Hip replacement surgery - A total hip replacement is a surgical procedure whereby the diseased cartilage and bone of the hip joint is surgically replaced with artificial materials. This surgery is usually the only option middle-aged to elderly people have in order to lead a normal life.

* Knee replacement surgery - A total knee replacement is a surgical procedure whereby the diseased knee joint is replaced with artificial material.

* Breast Augmentation/Enlargement - a procedure which enlargens or enhances the breast. Women get their breasts augmented for a variety of reasons: they may seek to increase the size of their breasts, or improve breasts that have taken a beating due to multiple pregnancies. In many cases, women seek breast augmentation as a form of reconstructive surgery such as after a mastectomy, or to provide balance to uneven breasts.

* Cosmetic Dentistry -  Having cosmetic dental work done is becoming more and more popular with those that simply want the work done to improve their look. Even so, this can include braces, implants, crowns and veneers which not only have a cosmetic effect, but a psychological and physical effect as well.

These examples are a broad representation of the most popular elective surgical procedures but nevertheless are in most cases essential to the patient’s physical and psychological well-being; this is where the need for informed and effective Patient Financing must be addressed.

The fact is that all these procedures, and more, should really come under the compulsive cover of any health policy…but they do not. In fact, the only thing that distinguishes these procedures is that they do not come under the usual heading of conventional conditions.  But like I say; they are all treated using the most up-to-date surgical procedures, by the most highly-trained specialist medical practitioners and all with the objective of treating both the body and the mind - just like all medical procedures.

Today, many women realise that they can now achieve the look that they have always wanted; this is why so many women nowadays consider a loan for breast implant surgery. This option gives them the freedom to choose the surgeon they think is best for themselves.

But what about the growing popularity of cosmetic dentistry? most of us now realise the need to look our best, especially if we have career’s that see us meeting and networking with a large circle of people and clients;  of course the first thing a person notices is your smile. But as it is difficult, almost impossible, to get regular cover for achieving that great smile many people are simply opting for cosmetic dentistry financing as a way to enable them to choose the best dental surgeon they can find. Having the finance organised and settled put’s you in control of where you go, who you go to and what you choose to have done.

Looking at things from the other side of the consulting desk the surgeon can thus concentrate on you and your needs, rather than spend time considering whether or not you can afford to pay him…or act as a finance advisor rather than a doctor.

We are all familiar with email; according to who you speak they will either declare it the best thing ever invented or the bane of their lives. Personally I think it is something somewhere in between but it certainly has revolutionised the way we communicate with each other today.

But what about another feature that is possibly even better than email and yet few people know about it and even fewer understand it. It’s called RSS. We all see it on websites, but what does it actually do?…in short RSS it is a very smart way of accessing information from websites without having to visit the sites themselves.  Take Feedburner for example; this is a way of syndicating news content and makes it easy to receive content updates in My Yahoo!, Newsgator, Bloglines, and other news readers.

Whilst this is great, I have found something even better…fantastic if you like; Netvibes ! you can create your own page - making it your homepage will really make it work best for you - enter in all the urls you frequent and you will have everything there on the one page. All neatly packaged and ready to access in one hit. It looks really funky too and you can create it to look the way you want it too. Best thing to do though is register and create your account so you don’t lose all your settings, but this just takes about 30 secs and best of all it is free!

I have just set up my own page to make life easier for myself; they have just made a newer version available ‘Ginger’  so I have added that…it takes about 24hrs to update itself but I think it’s a wonderful innovation and should make internetting so much less of a hassle.

I thought I would introduce this because careers are what we all aim for from the time we are in school; we also change careers after several years often moving into completely different fields and all in the name of making ou working lives interesting and varied. Today, let’s kick things off by taking a brief look at an area that I seriously considered going into myself some years ago; X-Ray Technician.

If you are fascinated by technology and by the mysterious interior of the human body then maybe you should consider a career as an X-ray technician. This field has seen many advances in the past twenty years since I worked as a dark room assistant. The technician is responsible for taking the x-rays of the patient; positioning them and preparing them. Today advances in this field now cover MRI, CT Scanning, use of radio isotopes; the opportunities are plentiful also for advancement and even specialising in certain areas of X-ray and imaging.

Maybe you have worked as a nurse for several years and have decided it is time to try something different; remember that working as an X-ray technician  requires a certain amount of strength and good physical health due to the constant lifting and handling of many disabled patients and the elderly. I can honestly say that this would be a most interesting career choice; consider the advances in medical technology in recent years and the chance to be a part of it all.
