I was watching the news yesterday and saw the ever growing mountain of lost baggage at London Heathrow airport’s T5; absolutely amazing. Any more added to the pile and they’ll have to declare it a landmark and give it a name – maybe we’ll even see snow collecting on the top!
Spend time at an airport though and you will also be surprised at the sheer amount of luggage many people take with them on their travels. I have seen two people, just two, with up to three trolley’s of huge suitcases; do they pack their entire house when they go away?
My partner has spent a good deal of time travelling on business and we have now got the formula right for easy check-in and easy escape on the other side. He simply takes along only what he needs; his PC goes under his arm and all other essentials go into an overnight bag - admittedly this cabin bag does stretch the carry-on allowance to the hilt but all the same while others are waiting impatiently for their bags to be offloaded he simply sails past and out of the terminal.
Of course if you are travelling for an extended length of time this would not work; but think about the inconvenience suffered by those travellers at T5. Anticipate. Pack that which you cannot get by without into your cabin gear and the rest of the non-essentials into your checked baggage.
