My next door neighbour had spent fifteen years as a primary school teacher before she decided on a career change; one that would allow her to work from home and for herself. She was interested in health and well being; relaxation and holistic medicine and so enrolled in a course of Therapeutic Massage at an adult learning college.

This is an ideal area for women to work in and setting yourself up to work from home is relatively easy. Have you a spare bedroom, or a study, in which you can create a peaceful and relaxing environment for your clients ? The equipment required is basic and not extensive - a good massage table, linen, towels, oils are the tools of trade. My neighbour converted an unused bedroom; she painted the walls in a soft neutral colour, added muted lighting and soft music. One thing about this field is that you will need to practise on clients throughout your training.

There are various forms of therapeutic massage:

Swedish

Oriental

Relaxation

Sports

Reflexology

And all are enjoying huge popularity as people become more health conscious and realise the importance of achieving a balance of peace and harmony in their lives. My neighbour specialised in massage for pregnant women experiencing back, leg and feet problems and discovered a great demand for this service.

It is extremely important to gain your qualifications with a fully accredited course (follow the link  for those in the United States), and the following for those in the United Kingdom and Australia.
