Yep, it’s time for BBQ’s and sitting outside with a salad, a steak and a nice cold beer. That’s how we do things in Australia - a bit more difficult for those in the UK at times - but in Australia in the summer…the barbie is king.

Everyone has a collection of foldup tables in their garages for outdoor eating, parties and barbies with the ping-pong table usually doubling as a big table. Throw a cloth over it and away you go. I was looking at some outdoor settings the other day when I came across this; a beer pong table. They are designed to withstand all the beer you can spill on them so you can put the old ping-pong table back in the garage and use it for what it was intended.

I have to admit I love the name…

DIY Dentistry in modern day Britain.

Posted by Wendy under Health

I was in a pharmacy the other day just browsing the shelves - don’t you think that pharmacies these days stock some fascinating items…?

The I came upon something which really made my skin crawl - a do-it-yourself dentistry kit complete with one of those nerve shattering implements with the little hook on the end. The one the dentist uses to poke around your teeth looking for a cavity until he finds one and you go ” Eeeeekkk!!! “

While they are marketed for that little dental emergency that can strike when you are on holiday miles from anywhere, or in a country where a good and capable dentist is as rare as hens teeth - I still hate to think of myself needing to resort to using one of these kits.

But with the NHS in crisis these days and more dentists opting out of performing NHS work the result is that many people, especially elderly folk, are having to do their own dentistry. You often read now about some old guy who had to pull out his own tooth; and those NHS dentists who are still in the system are now extracting teeth rather than going to the cost of treating and repairing them.

And even worse, I wonder how long it will be before we can buy our own do-it-yourself drill - the thought just does not bear thinking about….

The rising cost of living in the United Kingdom is creating havoc for struggling families right now. Many British people are not travelling to the usual summer time destinations of Spain and France due to the poor buying power of the Euro.

But the Brit’s are well known for their love of taking a holiday and despite the economic problems affecting them they will still find someway to go away for a break.

So where can they go and get the most out of their Pound…?

The United States it seems. The Pound is currently strong and steady against the US Dollar and this should be enticing Brit’s away from the Costa’s in favour of alternatives such as Florida and Vegas vacations. It is a relatively quick flight to the East Coast of America and the very cheap connections make the US a much more reasonable prospect for vacationing right now.
