One thing we, as a hotel, ensure we never ever run out of is that one important necessity of life - toilet paper. We go through mountains of the stuff - well - our guests do anyway and when you count the number of guests who assume it is fine to take a full roll with them when they leave you can realise just how much the costs run up.

Funny the souvenirs that people go for…

There are also other supplies we stock up on for lifes little emergencies; when you run a hotel you find that one is always around the corner - drama seems to follow some people around. We always keep a supply of disposable nappies in various sizes and this came about as we travel around ourselves. We have found ourselves without a nappy for one of the kids when they were babies - I once even improvised with an old t-shirt for my son when he was nine months old….

We see a large number of elderly travellers too so keeping a pack of those incontinence supplies in the form of pants have come in useful a couple of times. You should see our store room - with the first aid kits and all these things it is starting to resemble a pharmacy!

” HI, I’M ON THE PLANE !! “

Posted by Wendy under travel

I can only speak for myself but there are few instances where the public use of mobile phones do not seriously annoy me. They, and the people who shout into them, text into them and obsessively check them everywhere you go just drive me to distraction.

It is bad enough that you cannot enjoy a meal in a restaurant without some twerp within your field of vision talking to their phone rather than their companion; bad enough that you cannot get on a bus or train without someone nearby answering some inane ringtone.

The only place people like myself could get some refuge from fone freaks was on an aircraft. But now it seems those days could be numbered since Emirates have allowed use of these things on their flights. I plan to boycott this airline…

Now of course other airlines will be keen to follow suit but maybe there is something we can do about it - there is a campaign to keep the skies phone-free and we should jump on the wagon and keep it that way. Who wants to hear some twit stating the sheer obvious…‘ I’m on the plane now ! ‘  …. DUHHH!!
