This might be a bit off topic but I just had to write about it. I was reading a  British expat online forum the other day and decided to relate an experience I had earlier that day. I’d been out shopping and saw a vintage car rally where there were a range of old cars – all in beautiful condition – and decided to ask the men participating in the forum what their fave classic car was.

Talk about opening the flood gates!

It turns out that it is a very personal thing, this love between a man and his car – all types of makes and models were offered and their characteristics, parts ( one guy spoke at length about an ac compressor he tried to fit in his MG ) and especially fuel mileage.

To me a car has always been something to get me from A to B – and I got that philosophy from my Dad – but even then if he saw an Austin A30 he would go all misty-eyed.

Like everyone else who read about it, I was totally and deeply shocked by the shooting murder of a newlywed British couple in the Caribbean just recently.  They were on their honeymoon – just coming to the end of it in fact – when they were victims of a bungled robbery.

The Caribbean then received alot of bad publicity over the ensuing weeks with others telling their tales of bad experiences there but, taking in the general picture, it is no more unsafe than other places in the world. The region is so popular because of the climate, the affordability of going there and friendly people who live there. You get ‘bad eggs’ no matter where you go and the first rule of travelling is to always keep your wits about you.

The Caribbean economy relies heavily on the tourist dollar and considering Caribbean villa rentals should still remain an option for those who wish to visit this beautiful idyll.
