I remember when I was working for a major retail store back in the early 90’s the day of the year that all staff dreaded – stocktake day. Sure it meant you could ditch the uniform for a day and wear your civvies but it also meant counting and writing down numbers…lot’s of them. And if you got it wrong you had to start again – I always praised the heavens I never worked in the hardware section…all those nuts and bolts.

Now of course it is all technology and instead of reading batch numbers, counting and writing it all down by hand you have such devices as the Honeywell Barcode Scanner to make the job so much easier.

My own particular bad memory of that time was spending an entire morning – from 8.30am until after midday counting paper rolls for the cash registers. I counted them all, feeling very efficient until I realised that the boxes held TWO layers of rolls in them each…I had to rewrite every batch chart I had spent hours filling in!

Yeah yeah, we all complain bitterly about Ryanair and swear never to fly with them ever again but come holiday time they really seem to be the only option for many of us.

The best way to travel with them and not have any nasty surprises fees/charges-wise is to know what they charge, how much and for what.

On this page you can read up on all their charges and how to avoid them where necessary and keep that £12 ticket as close as possible to the mark.

Since the euro has plummeted in recent times holidays to Spain and France have not offered the same bargains and value for money that they did for so long. British people are now even staying put and holidaying on their home turf rather than lose out on the weak pound/euro rate.

But it is always nice to get on a plane and go somewhere isn’t it? that makes it really feel like a vacation – why not consider the Outer Banks region of North Carolina in the US…? you get great summer weather, beautiful beaches (which are scrupulously clean) and an all round nicer environment especially for taking your family along.
