As many people start to make their way to the airports for the great Easter getaway it is time to start remembering to heed those rules and regs governing the carriage of liquids and fluids on board.
But obviously thse drawing up these rules do not think things through…
For instance we travelled from Belfast International to London last year and encountered one of those very keen officers who are determined to stick to things by the letter. This plonker was so worked up over the fact we had not sealed our clear plastic bag properly that he totally ignored the boxed Tesco birthday cake in our hand luggage…
Now, correct me if I am wrong, but one of the oldest tricks in the book is to conceal a metal file in a cake…? that cake could have had a bomb or anything inside it and he never even checked!
And harking back to my chemistry lessons at school; it is relatively easy, once you know your periodic table and have done a few experiments, that it only requires a bit of ammonia and some vinegar to make chlorine gas, or ammonia and some bleach to make something quite dangerous for on board a plane. Now, how many times have you seen those airport terminal cleaners absentmindedly leave their trolley of potentially-dangerous cleaning chemicals lying around outside toilet rooms and anywhere in particular? plenty of times and how easy would it be for a terrorist to help themself to those chemicals and run something together in the loo’s…?
Don’t those who have our safety in their hands stop to think these things through – if I can work it out how easy would it be for someone with something sinister on their minds!
