I am not talking about the whitewater rafting/mountain climbing/swimming with the sharks type among you. I refer to those out there who are drawn to various places around the world where there are other things to get involved in which are of a different kind of  ‘adventure’.

Such as civil wars, areas where natural disasters have occurred and regions where neighbouring countries are at war with each other. These places might appeal to some people but are dangerous enough to warrant inclusion on the UK’s Home Office list of no go places.

If you don’t heed the warnings and still head off, even if you have landed some unbeatable travel deals too good to resist, then you could very well find that should you get into any trouble you will not have consular assistance available to help you. We very rarely consider just what can happen when we are away on holiday and very few people even bother to make note of where their nearest consular mission will be should they need assistance.

Just keep this in mind next time you find the goings-on in Sierra Leone too exciting to miss…
