They certainly do if you are in the hotel/B&B business as we are. If there is one important detail that matters to your guests more than anything, after cleanliness and appearance, it is the mattress on the bed in their room.
If you are setting up your B&B business or have bought into a hotel I would strongly suggest you pay particular attention to the bed on which your guests will sleep. How old is it – what about the mattresses? one way to decide this for yourself (because many guests won’t tell you) is to spend a night in a series of the rooms yourself. We did this when we first took over this place; we spent a night in each room sleeping in the beds and were astonished to discover just how bad some of the mattresses were. So out went the old and in came the new; whether or not you decide to buy a foam mattress or a latex/posturepedic/orthopaedic or whatever is up to yourself and your budget of course. But it has to be good quality, durable and comfortable.
But make no mistake about it; before you go about renovating, painting and adding all manner of pretty things to your guests rooms make sure that they will have the best night’s sleep they ever had. And while you are about it – don’t scrimp on the pillows either!
