More often than not these days a background check is required as part of the application process for many jobs – particularly those where working with children is involved.
A sign of the times perhaps, but it is necessary all the same. Even when you apply for a rental property as a prospective tenant the owner will do a check on your employment status, criminal background (if any) and your credit history.
It all seems a bit intrusive when you think about it but in the workplace today employment screening has become part and parcel of the personnel manager’s life. Employers do have the right to have a good idea of who they are employing and whether they are suited to the tasks involved.
If you are applying for a position in Public Service/Govt then you will have to accept that a thorough background check will be done on you – better make sure that your backyard is clean…
