For the past four years I have been despairing at the walls in this house – white, white and more white. With the regular amount of people traffic through this place those walls collected a fine array of little handprints and fingermarks but when you wiped over with a cloth away came some of the paint off the wall. I really wanted some colour on those walls and in particular I wanted to turn one very drab and empty room into something warm and inviting – a room where I can sit and listen to music or read whilst watching the birds in the courtyard in the warmer weather.
Did I say ‘sit and read’ ?…dream on and as if !!
I decided it was time to renovate, only I don’t have the budget of the presenters on those lifestyle shows on TV. Not many people do. So, it was time to don my DIY hat and give in to my brainstorm. The three tins of paint cost just under £80, paint rollers/brushes came to about £10 and the white spirit was £4. I used newspapers for floor protection.
48 hours later I had one room – my room - completed. Today we finished the stairway, hallway and I am starting on the living room this week. I’m on a roll now so I’m afraid to stop and lose my momentum.
Anyway what I’m saying is this…have a go at DIY- it certainly will save you a lot of money even if the job takes just that bit longer to finish. It’s great exercise…and it’s fun!
