The appalling type of customer service delivered by the High Street banks these days exposed in a new report from the Financial Ombudsman Service. And it wont be surprising to too many people…
It is clear that not only do the High Street banks receive far more complaints than other financial organisations, but they are ridiculously bad at dealing with them. Tell us something new you say! many complaints concern people being sold misleading payment protection insurance. But the banks knew very well that Payment Protection Insurance had been misleadingly sold and if their customer services departments had been doing their jobs these complaints would never have reached the Ombudsman. Instead they chose to fight these legitimate complaints, presumably in the hope that a good proportion of people would give up.
I have experience bad service myself recently when my Nationwide branch refused to process my withdrawal transaction over the counter due to the fact that I wanted to withdraw less than £30 – “It takes up precious time and other customers complain…” was the teller’s reply. Nice one Nationwide – of course I have taken my money elsewhere since.
