I was at the hairdressers today and our conversation got around to hair extensions – I had been admiring all the photos of the models around the salon walls with their impossibly long and glossy locks and wondered if their hair was for real.
“Of course they aren’t” said my hair stylist, and she should know I suppose. “They are extensions – all the models get them these days…”
Katie Holmes/Cruise has just emerged from her short cropped days sporting flowing chestnut locks – pixie cut one day, long the next. Extensions of course. I asked my stylist which were the best ones to get as I’d heard all kinds of horror stories about them getting tangled, falling out, causing bald spots…all of which are true by way. Though it has come a long way from the days when our Grans wore wigs which looked like area rugs…
She recommended the clip-on extensions and if you get them done in the salon they look great and you can get them out just as easily. She told me she stood for 7 hours one day last year removing the waxed-on extensions of a client who had washed her hair and they ended up like a bad knitting job. Seven hours!!!
