Do you like queue-jumpers…? no, neither do I and I would venture to say that nobody does. Are you one of those travellers who find it galling to be asked to pay several pounds just to board your Ryanair flight before all the other riff-raff ? we also don’t pay this but we find it amusing to watch all those smug priority boarders eye each other with deep resentment when it dawns on them that there are more priority boarders than there are riff-raff and they still have to elbow each other for a good seat.
Well, Qantas is now going to actively encourage queue-jumping but in a more legal manner. Qantas is attempting to cut in half it’s domestic check-in times by placing microchips in it’s frequent flyer cards. This will give holders their own permanent boarding pass and will thus allow them to jump the queue. In this new system passengers will be able to simply scan their card at stand-alone kiosks in the terminal and then proceed through security to their departure gate.
There will also be a simplified baggage drop service to ensure the smooth operation of this service. Smart move Qantas – this should see a larger uptake of their fidelity card from people wanting faster boarding times.
