One thing you notice these days is the number of ‘for sale’ signs around the neighbourhoods, and even more telling is the length of time those signs have been in place…nobody seems to be buying right now and we are supposed to be on the way out from the credit crunch. The banks of course are responsible – they are still being difficult about lending for mortgages and I really feel sorry for young couples trying to get their foot on the property ladder.
But I have noticed how many builders are out working on homes in our area and doing obvious house renovation projects; we have decided it is not the time to sell and are putting our savings into renovating this house so that when the time comes and the market recovers we will have a fairly ‘new’ house to sell and get a good price for. We are looking at carpets, flooring, bathrooms and kitchens – also furniture. We have bought a beautiful new suite – soon to be delivered – and new carpet is to follow…to match the new suite.
We have a sitting room which has been a point of conjecture – I want the wall knocked down and joined with the living room for extra space but the man-of-the-house fancies it as a study with a big comfy chair along the lines of a shermag glider just for him to use. Now if one of our kids were still a baby it would not be a bad idea if only to get him to do some night feeds in such a chair…but they aren’t babies any more and so that excuse is several years out of date. Nevertheless, the DIY outlets are doing a booming trade it seems with other people redecorating right now…a sign of the times I’d say.
