There are ways of getting around the issue and instead of the usual toys how about putting together some gifts of your own? if you kids love stories then record some of their favourites, read by yourself or even Nan/Grandpa, and package them up nicely. They would make a great keepsake for the future grandchildren/great-grandchildren for sure!

Are you a renowned and respected cook in your circle of family and friends…? put together your own recipe book – it is easy now to self-publish and you can do it on your own computer. Once again, a nice family heirloom in the making so long as you don’t mind your culinary secrets being shared

You can also be ultra-modern and buy your friend, or child, their own website domain – turning them into a dot com would be unique and different and encourage them to join the big wide world of blogging…

There are ways to make someone’s Xmas this year without spending too much at all…just some imagination is all that’s needed.
