As I’m writing this there are thousands of young people currently studying for a career in the entertainment industry; music, acting, directing, managerial – my own son is interested in going into film editing and we have discovered just how competitive the industry as a whole is.
When I was at music college myself a few years back the realities of making it big were very clearly presented to us in that only a select few would find fame, and that it can be a fleeting thing. One aspect that was very strongly presented was that nearly all of us, at some stage, would be in a situation where we would be offered drugs. They are widespread in the entertainment industry and the presence today of a variety of drug rehabs speaks for the fact that many people, young and old, are susceptible to falling victim to an addiction of some kind.
This is a sad, but important fact to consider if you are contemplating a career in the performing arts.
