With me anyway. As if banks and building societies could not be any more customer unfriendly they always seem to find one more way to annoy their account holders.
Today I quickly needed a few pounds and so I thought I would clean out what little cash I had left in my Nationwide account – I will be topping it up again this week anyway – so I dashed into my branch in Belfast city centre to withdraw seven pounds.
Firstly I wondered why there was nobody in there seeing it was mid-afternoon…strange and on a Monday too. Secondly I asked the teller if she would give me a balance before I made the withdrawal – no, she wouldn’t. They don’t do balance enquiries over the counter anymore, I have to use the machine outside instead. It was pouring rain outside!
So then I requested my seven pounds. No, she wouldn’t do that either. “We don’t do cash withdrawals over the counter under £30 anymore as customers were complaining about lines of people making small transactions…”
So I cannot withdraw less than ten pounds from the machine, I cannot get it from inside the bank either…where the heck do I bloody well get it then…???
“You can go to a post office and withdraw your seven pounds…”
Oh fine – I have an account with Nationwide but I have go to a blinkin’ post office to get my money. Yep, stand in an endless queue of people posting complicated items to lift cash I have deposited with Nationwide…
No wonder their customer service is so often criticised. Said account will henceforth be closed this week.
I hear Nationwide as a building society has a shaky future – couldn’t happen to a nice bunch. This week I shall be handing my cash over to National Savings instead; they wont go broke and I will have a reason to go the post office.
