disabledparkingI think we are all becoming a little too hardline and militant about certain things in life these days. It seems that there are armies of stasi out there just waiting to pounce on you for committing the slightest act of unpolitically correct  thoughtlessness when all you are trying to do is cope with life’s little frustrations.

I have taken various stands against all this PC nonsense from time to time, and yes, I have committed some unspeakable acts of wanton social lunacy – like parking in a disabled parking bay at the local Tesco for five minutes while I withdrew some cash from a cash-point. I have seen what has a happened to others who commit this act of heresy and it is not pretty. But why on earth are there so many of these bays when there are never that many disabled people shopping at any given time…? there are 25 disabled parking bays – just imagine if all of those were full and 25 wheelchairs were making their way around the supermarket aisles at the same time…? I also know for a fact that some of those cars with disabled parking permits are being driven by carers or relatives NOT accompanied by a disabled person…I work at Tesco and see this all the time folks. The same goes for parent/toddler parking bays – why do they need to park near the doors? how do wheelchair bound people manage getting around the supermarket if they have to have the necessity of parking next to the doors?

Does having a disability appeal to me…? no, of course not – but you don’t see people lambasting you for using the disabled loo when the others are full, so why so militant about the parking spaces? as Xmas gets closer and we are all out shopping we will once again be met with a no-spaces-available sign on the car parks, except the disabled bays because they will be on the whole empty. And no I wont use one – but I would be lying if I said I wouldn’t be very tempted. And that must go for most people…
