When asbestos became the silent killer

There was a time in Australia, back in the 80′s, when you heard about the asbestos victims amongst the retired miners in Western Australia on almost a daily basis.

When the deadly effects of this substance began making themselves apparent it also came to light that not only the men suffered and died but their wives as well. The wives washed their clothes and inhaled the asbestos fibres…

Seeing the Govt back then try and avoid compensating these people for the illnesses they developed was appalling. It was not until NSW Governor Sir David Martin announced he too was dying from the effects of asbestos (from his days in the navy) that the politicians sat up and took the Mesothelioma lawyers seriously.

Sadly this disease is still killing people and asbestos is still being removed from schools – it would be shocking to know that our children are walking around with this time bomb ticking inside them. It takes years to tick away too…
