We live in a street which has a lot of good people who all look out for each other; when you go on holiday you know that the neighbours will keep an eye out for anything suspicious around your house and even put your bins out each week to throw people off thinking the house is empty.
Over Xmas though some louts got the better of us during the extreme weather and the house of a very nice lady up the road was broken into…I mean you do not expect thieves to be out casing places on Xmas eve when it is -10C outside do you? poor Dorothy was in England visiting family and her place got ransacked – strange because she really has just the basics in regards to household stuff…no laptops or stereo – our next door neighbours noticed her door open and the door handlesets were jemmied off which is how they got in. Not a nice Xmas present for her, a very nice old lady, and actually the thieves got away with very little in the way of valuables. But they gave us all a feeling of insecurity at a time when everyone should have been feeling happy.
