I will be the first to put my hand up to this one and I would guess that many people have done the same thing. I’d say most of us have at some stage slipped a ten pound note into a birthday or Xmas card for a nephew, grand-daughter, etc, and then assumed it would arrive safely being well sealed and concealed inside the card.
Well, most of the time it would arrive safely but I am one of those people who can also claim that it went horribly wrong. I posted my son a bundle of mail to his new address in Paris and slipped into a greeting card a 20 euro note. Now the card was placed right in the centre of the stack of envelopes and all bound together with a rubber band – nobody could possibly know it was there….right?
Wrong. He received the padded envelope enough containing all his mail, including the card, but minus the 20 euros. The envelope had been slit open and resealed with tape. You have to wonder how, with all the so-called advanced technology which is supposed to monitor postal staff at the sorting centres, staff are still able to steal from people’s mail. We know we shouldn’t send money through the post, just like you never take cash or valuables with you when you go into hospital, but seeing as thieving still exist in the postal service it is better and safer to resist the temptation and opt for a money transfer instead. I have been burned, and it makes you furious, but better to be safe than sorry this Xmas.
